Translating Identity February 28th!!
So who's actually going to this conference (I want to go but I need a ride!) at this point? I know people started having mad plans soon after we began talking about going as a mod. Any idea of your schedules for next weekend, mod-dwellers (and friends)?

my mother says we can most definitely crash on her couches and such on our way to/from the conference (it's about 45 minutes from Brookfield to Burlington)

my mom's coming down to visit me on saturday (she'll probably get here 3ish). is it okay with everyone if she stays in the quiet room overnight? (she's well-behaved, i promise)

birthday stuff.
i'm posting this because i will probably forget to mention it. my memory is no good and it does poorly with exciting situations like moving! modmodmod!!

anyway. my birthday is thursday - i hope to have a small party that night, ending around midnight so that those of you with friday morning classes will not have to suffer. feel free to invite people - i like people. people are good. if there is a problem with having a small gathering in the mod, let me know and i will relocate.

my mother is coming down on friday to take me out to dinner. i was hoping to go to judie's in amherst... nothing too fancy, however, for feeding six people it is a bit out of the budget. so. you all are more than welcome to join us if you are willing to share the bill. or if you beg for a really long time, i could probably be convinced to go somewhere cheaper and get pizza or something. in any case, birthday cake and icecream and such will be provided chez the mod :)

Gina and I think we should eat dinner out together on the move-in day.
Any thoughts?

ok, so the final word on the table. daniel is asking for something like $45/$50 for the table and a mismatched set of six or so chairs. would anyone mind pitching in somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 apiece? i don't mind fronting the money for it. it's a very nice table, sturdy and pretty and such. the chairs are kind of meh, but they work.

Kitty part 2
Hey guys...
The kitty question is still under discussion. But, we DO! have a backup kitty-sitter for if we have Pam Tinto Issues. Lexie's volunteered.
Woo to the hoo.

So. Sonja, Wendell and I have mutually offered up our mod as a potential meeting place for the hampsters meet-n-greet the first week of skool. We can withdraw this offer should any of you not be amenable, but they all seem like pretty chill people.

ALSO. Sonja's birthday and accompanying party are scheduled for the 4th, the first Thursday of the semester. This is the first day of classes, so people won't be too terribly bogged down in work. 'Zat good for all you?

AND STILL MORE. MY birthday is September 23rd, which unfortunately falls on a Tuesday this year. Hence, I'm hoping to have the party on the 19th or 20th. Do these dates work? Is one better than another?

Perhaps I am insane.
This is a purely theoretical concept at the moment, but.

How would any/all of you feel about me bringing my cat, Ruby, back to campus with me?

1. I won't do this if anyone has objections-- I want a harmonious mod, and my mom's willing to keep her till I'm out of Hampshire.
2. I would, of course, be responsible for food/vet/kitty box cleaning responsibilities. If I were away from campus for more than a day I might ask one of you to take Ruby Duty temporarily, but she's mine and I'll care for her.
3. I miss my kitty. My sisters don't like her very much. :(
4. Most interns will look the other way about pets if they're kept out of the way and well-cared-for.
Finally, 5. I have several friends off-campus who I will ask, before bringing Ruby to Hampshire, if they would be willing to take her as a foster cat in the unlikely event I am asked to remove her.

I have discussed this with Wendell and Gina, but...
Gina and I think the mod should take a group trip to Montreal over October Break.

1) we have a blender. unfortunately, said blender has an itty bitty crack in the side that makes things a wee bit messy.

2) we may have a couch. my present roommate is going to china in the fall; most likely he will not be bringing the couch with him, and i should be able to snag it. it seats three comfortably, and has a full size pull-out bed.

3) i don't remember if we bought a teakettle or not. in any case, my stepfather has given me one. if we bought one already, we now have two. if we didn't, now we have one.

4) gosh, i miss you guys so fricken much. so so so fricken much.

i have a cool dad.
people, we have a very pretty new cutting board. it is big and wooden and striped. suggestion has been made to add stripes going the other way and make it a checkerboard (carrots vs. celery). votes?
love you all.

my dad has asked me virtually daily whether i've heard yet whether my fridge & microwave made it safely into storage. so, for his peace of mind, since i trust you guys enough to figure they're probably fine, did they?

Hey all.
So, the plan as it stands is that we will be leaving no later than 10 tomorrow morning to make a Target trip for mod stuff. Sonja has said she probably won't come, but everyone else, I think, was okay with this plan.
The list I have of stuff that needs to be acquired is as follows:
George Foreman grill
a 5-person set of silverware (we'd said a 10-set, but I bought a 5-person set at a yardsale last week.)
some decent but cheap plastic cups
2 standing lamps for common space

Everyone think about whether there's anything else we'd like to get. A couple of things that came to mind for me:
-shower curtain
-basic cleaning supplies: the mod will prob. be grungy when we move in, so i was thinking some basic cleaning solutions, scrub brushes, maybe a broom?
-cheap plastic plates for common use?
-we'll probably think of other stuff to consider.

Finally: I sent in our registration and $125 deposit check on the farmshare. This means everyone owes me $25. If paying me back before leaving isn't an option for whatever reason, we can work that out, but I'm in a financial crunch and would really appreciate it if that could happen.

Oh, and as for where all tomorrow's purchases will live until we can move them into storage-- would people mind just taking a couple bags/items each to their rooms until I can drive them out to the storage in Hadley?

Yay! Shopping!

vol. 3: thursday? friday? why not saturday?
uh-huh. so, sarahpi can't go friday unless we get back by 2 and ginabean can't go friday unless we go after noon, correct? so that leaves friday out. which means we could go -- um -- tomorrow? can anyone not go tomorrow? or, how about saturday? anyone busy saturday? i was originally planning to leave saturday but now am staying till sunday, so unless other people have conflicts that's one more day we've got open.

that's all the thought i can devote to it right now, as i MUST FINISH THIS PAPER! ARG!

mod shopping day, vol. 2
current consensus seems to be vaguely that we go early friday. at least, i think that's the semi-conclusion sarahpi and i came to yesterday. anyone opposed?

also, i am now officially departing the valley at noon on may 11th. if anybody wants to help carry heavy stuff down three flights of stairs, that would be appreciated!

love you all.
